September 22nd is National Hobbit Day, so make sure you plan to have a big breakfast or big second breakfast. First started by the American Tolkien Society in 1978, September 22nd celebrates the birthdays of Frodo and Bilbo Baggins. Here are some ways you can celebrate!

Spend Some Time in Nature

Hobbits love to farm and live in nature, so one of the best ways to celebrate is by simply being outside. Take a nice hike or watch for birds. Rest under a tree or hang in a pumpkin patch. The sky’s the limit.

Make Your Own Lembas Bread

Frodo and Sam are given Elven bread wrapped in leaves called lembas to sustain them on their journey. Feast of Starlight has a simple recipe you can try at home. They won’t be magic or help you climb a volcano, but they’ll taste great.

Have a Movie Marathon

The Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies are available to check out in our DVD/blu-ray collections. And, a few Tolkien documentaries are currently available on Kanopy too!
