Most of you, our customers, have never heard about the Novelist database we have on our CCPL website. This is a database that librarians use to help you find books to read. It might seem like magic how we can listen to you tell us what you like, then find books that are similar for you to read. No, we have not read every book (though we would like to).

So, let’s start with the basics. There are two Novelist databases. Novelist K-8 and Novelist Plus. You can access them by going to our CCPL website. Go to the “Research & Learn” tab at the top. In the drop down menu, select “Research & Databases”. Type “Novelist” in the search bar and the link for both databases will appear.

Novelist K-8

This database is geared towards young readers, and it is a great resource for discovering series, read-alike titles, and genre lists.” Below is a screenshot of what you would see on the Novelist K-8 homepage.  You will be able to search for books by using the title, author, genre, or age group (ranging from baby to teen). Once you click on a title, you will see a summary of the book and links to read alikes.

Novelist Plus

This database is useful for all ages. It is a great resource for discovering new favorites, series, and book discussion guides. Below is a screenshot of what you would see on the Novelist Plus home page.  You will be able to search for books by using the title, author, genre, or age group. Once you click on a title, you will see a summary of the book and links to read alikes.

Additionally, if you search for a book using our catalog, you will see a link to Novelist at the bottom of the page. And, you will be able to view other books in the series, similar titles, similar authors, and similar series.
