Anti/Hero introduces two new characters to the DC universe!  Piper Pájaro is a thirteen-year-old with super strength who wants to become a superhero.  Her classmate Sloan Macbrute has a genius brain and is on her way to becoming a supervillain.  When the two switch bodies, they have to learn to work together to defeat a supervillain known as the Bear.  This is a humorous story that will also appeal to readers who do not generally pick up superhero stories, since it focuses more on the girl’s friendships than on their powers.  Because the characters are new to the DC universe, you don’t need to know anything about superheroes to dive right in.

This humorous series features Revolutionary War spy Nathan Hale spinning tales from history in order to prolong his life after his capture by the British.  So far the series has covered Harriet Tubman, the battle of the ironclads, the Donner Dinner Party, the battle of the Alamo, and  the start of WWI, among other topics.  The books are so entertaining, you may just forget you are learning history at the same time!

The Baby-Sitters Club graphic novels are a favorite among our members, and the most popular book in the series may just be Boy-Crazy Stacey!  This story follows Stacey and Mary Anne as they accompany the Pike family to the Jersey shore so they can babysit the kids.  However, when Stacey gets distracted by a cute lifeguard, Mary Anne is stuck working alone.  Will this be the end of their friendship?  This book is the seventh in the series, but can be read as a stand-alone. Some fans of the Baby-Sitters Club graphic novels have enjoyed the first installment of the new  Baby-Sitters Little Sisters series.  Karen’s Witch follows Kristy’s six-year-old stepsister Karen as she spies on her next door neighbor, whom she is sure is trying to cast a spell on the neighborhood!  Ultimately, however, she learns that spying only leads her into trouble.  This story does skew a little younger, and may be a good introduction to the world of the Baby-Sitters for readers who are not quite ready for the Baby-Sitters Club books.

The 2018 series stars best friends Betty and Veronica in their senior year of high school.  However, when they learn that they will be attending different colleges in the fall, their friendship is put to the test.  Read the whole series to follow the pair through the Halloween party, senior prom, and a last summer to remember.

Raina Telgemeier is one of the club’s most recommended authors.  Drama follows Callie as she joins her school’s theatre department as part of the stage crew.  Unfortunately, the crew is having difficulty working as a team.  And there seems to be more drama offstage than on with all the romantic pairings and breakups occurring.

This new graphic novel is based on the 1940s radio serial in which Superman fights racists who are targeting a Chinese American family.  Graphic novelist superstar Gene Luen Yang has updated the story for contemporary audiences, introducing Tommy and Roberta Lee, two children who help Superman fight prejudice and discover some new powers!  A perfect introduction to Superman for readers new to DC.
