Do you like magnets?  How about making some fun fandom clay magnets.  Clay is lots of fun to work and experiment with. I have included all the instructions to make some cool fandom magnets using clay.  This project is easy enough for a beginner and fun for everyone, no matter what your skill level is. They can also make a unique gift to give to a fellow fandom lover.

Materials

  • Clay: Can be polymer clay (baked) or air dry clay. (I used Super Sculpey and Fimo clay which you have to bake in the oven).

  • Tools: You can get a set of clay tools or a butter knife and a sharpened pencil/pen can also work. For these projects, you will also want to use some sort of roller (I used a big marker).

  • Permanent Marker/Paint: I used markers or paint to add details to some of the magnets.

  • Magnet: You will need magnets to glue on the back of your creations.

  • Glue: You will need to glue the magnet on the finished project. Super glue or hot glue works best.

Mixing Clay

You can make different colors by mixing two colors together. As long as you have the primary colors and black and white you can make any color you may need. In this tutorial, I will show you how to make gray.

Step 1: Grab some white clay and add a pinch of black. (How much black you add depends on how dark you want the gray).

Step 2: Mix the two colors together by folding and kneading the clay until you get one solid color. At first, you will see swirls of different colors, keep going until it is one solid color. If you don’t have the color you want, add more of one color and repeat the above step. Ex: If this gray isn’t dark enough I’ll add more black or if it’s too dark I’ll add more white.

Pac-Man Ghost

Step 1: Body: Roll out the clay so it's flat. Trace the outline of a pac-man ghost. (template will be at bottom)

Step 2:  Smooth edges: Take your finger and smooth the edges of the ghost.

Step 3: Eyes: Make two equal small balls using white clay. Then squish them down and flatten the edges to make an oval shape. Place them in the center of the ghost.

Step 4: Eyeball: Make two really small balls using blue clay and add them to the bottom of the eye and squish it down.

Among Us

Step 1: Body: Cut out template (template will be at bottom). The backpack will be a separate piece, so cut that off. Then roll out the clay so it's flat and trace the outline of the body.

Step 2:  Smooth edges: Take your finger and smooth the edges of the body.

Step 3: Backpack: Roll out the clay so it's flat (I just used the extra clay left from when I did this with the body) and trace the backpack on the clay.

Step 4: Attach Backpack: Place the backpack piece underneath the body, then use a tool to attach the clay together by adding some pressure. Then flip it over and smooth the back out.

Step 5: Eyes: Roll out the clay so it's flat and then trace the outline of the eyes. Then attach it to the top edge of the body by squishing it down.

Step 6:(optional): Egg: Make a small circle. Then squish it down, make an indent in the bottom, then a small indent on the side. Place the egg base on the upper left of the body. After that, make an even smaller circle for the middle top of your egg and squish it down.

Step 7: Bake the clay.  If you are using an oven to bake the clay, follow directions on the wrapper. Once fully baked or dried add any details you might want using markers or paint and then add a magnet on the back.

Animal Crossing Balloon

Step 1: Present: Create a square out of some clay. Then roll out some clay in whatever color you would like and wrap it around the square like a gift.

Step 2: Bow: Roll out some clay then create a figure 8 for the bow.  Place the bow in the middle of the square. Use a tool to press it down and attach it to the square.

Step 3: Ribbon: Roll out clay, then cut two small pieces to make the rest of the ribbon. Smooth it out onto the blue strip.

Step 4:  Balloon: Roll out the clay flat and trace the balloon shape (template will be at bottom). Then roll out some clay and attach the balloon to the back of the present and smooth it out.

Step 5: (optional): Balloon: if you want the balloon to be a little more round add a small ball of clay and smooth it out. Then if you would like to add a little shine use a lighter color clay then the balloon and add a slight stripe to the balloon.

Step 6: Bake the clay. If you are using an oven to bake the clay, then follow directions on the wrapper. Once fully baked or dried, add a magnet on the back.

Circle Magnet

Step 1: Roll out clay, then find a circle to trace. I used an eraser. Smooth out any imperfections in the edges of the circle.

Step 2: Bake the clay.  If you are using an oven to bake the clay, then follow directions on the wrapper. Once fully baked or dried, add any details you might want using markers or paint (I drew on the water symbols for the avatar, but you can draw on whatever you would like.) Then add a magnet on the back.
