Kubo and the Two Strings follows Kubo as he embarks on a journey to defeat the Moon King!
This is such a beautiful movie to watch. Created by Laika (the same studio that gave us Coraline, Corpse Bride, and The Missing Link), this film takes place in feudal Japan and follows Kubo, a twelve-year-old boy who has magical powers, creating marvelous things with origami and his shamisen (a three-string instrument similar to a banjo). He helps take care of his mother by using his magic to tell stories in the local village until, one day, he is ambushed by the evil Moon King, who wants to steal his remaining eye. With the help of his new friends, Monkey and Beetle, Kubo must find all three parts of the mythical armor to defeat the king and restore balance to his home!
I absolutely loved this movie. The animation is so creative and beautiful, mind-boggling that it is stop motion, and the characters are all made out of clay or paper! The voice acting is very enjoyable as well, with stars such as Charlize Theron, Matthew McConaughey, and Ralph Fiennes portraying these unique characters that tell such a deep story about sacrifice, love, and what makes a family.
