CHARLES COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD APPROVES FIRST COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT
Historic three-year agreement enhances employee leave benefits, establishes multilingual pay, and reinforces a shared commitment to community engagement.
(La Plata, MD) The Board of Trustees for the Charles County Public Library (CCPL) has officially approved the library system’s inaugural Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with UFCW Local 1994 MCGEO, the union representing non-supervisory library staff. This landmark agreement marks a significant milestone in fostering a collaborative and productive working relationship between library management and staff.
The newly ratified agreement, effective through June 30, 2029, reflects the library’s dedication to supporting employees while preserving public library services across Charles County.
“We are pleased to reach this historic agreement and move forward together in strong partnership with our staff,” said Executive Director KennethWayne Thompson. “This is the culmination of hard work and collaboration from our leadership team.”
Director Thompson continued, “I want to express my sincerest thanks to everyone involved who worked together diligently to make this happen. This first contract demonstrates our investment in the well-being and long-term success of our workforce and the library.”
Key highlights of the new agreement include expanded leave benefits for part-time employees, multilingual pay for qualified staff, and competitive salary adjustments.
Leadership from UFCW Local 1994 MCGEO and CCPL collaborated through months of constructive negotiations to shape an agreement that aligns organizational goals and responds to employee priorities. Both the Library Board of Trustees and library leadership look forward to a future focused on achieving operational excellence, strong employee engagement, and impactful community service.
